Targetting a 16 pin cross lock - any tips?

Postby l0ckp1cker » 14 May 2009 15:59

Hi guys,

I just received a nice padlock from Tri-Circle which has a cross key / keyway and 16 active (spring loaded) pins.
Theoretically they can be picked just as easily (or hard) as any other pin tumbler lock, but do you have any pointers as to what to keep in mind?
Are these locks really just a regular pin tumbler but then with 4 rows of 4 pins?

Thanks!

There's a thread with some cross-point lock picks somewhere on LP101. Otherwise, I might try a 2-pronged tensioner to keep it out of the way so you can use a single sided pick and manoeuvre it around easily. If it's tricircle, it probably won't be too hard.

These locks are not to difficult, greyman is right in saying use a 2 prong tension tool, then simply raking the slots should see it open in no time, i have one of these locks on a steering wheel bar and it opens up quite easily using a normal tension tool and a small diamond pick in a raking fashion.

Your best friend picking one of these is the wire bore cleaning brush from a .22 caliber rifle.

Thanks guys for the replies.
I don't want to rake or jiggle it, just spp.
I've made a tension wrench for it and it works pretty good, but I haven't found the correct order of binding yet....
Work in progress :)
