Sargent apart and new play area

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Sargent apart and new play area

Postby Olson Burry » 16 May 2009 14:49

So I was picking this lock a minute ago, I believe it is a Sargent, and I'm thinking, mmm it's only a five pin usually they pop quicker than this, bit tricky.

Anyway after I got it picked I thought it would be easy enough to get that clippy bit off the top and have a look at the pins.. ah ha.. now I see why it took me longer than normal!

Spool, spool, spool, spool....

It has a pretty nice wide keyway.

I see it actually has room for 6 pin stacks so I'm re-pinning it so it's full, can't find another spool though so it'll have to be serrated. Looking forward to that.

Also for no particular reason, I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my new "play area" which I created for work and stuff, it's coming along nicely and is a good place to be. I've accomplished much more since making this space.

Excuse the mess, I've been busy :)

Thats it! Apologies for a rather pointless post, I'm bored.

Not a useless post, that looks really nice ;)
Is it a master keyed lock that you know of (because of the double driver pin)?

That cylinder is made by Corbin Russwin. I believe the keyway is L1.

I wish I have a play area like yours!
Unfortunately I have to reorganise and clean everything when I stop playing: I build tools in my kitchen and pick on my sofa...

By the way: is the wine used before or after picking?

Cheers :)

Not that I know of, although I cant see a reason for it being there otherwise so I imagine is was part of some kind of system at some point.

Ahh ok, that makes a some sense, I got a whole load of these as a job lot. At least one said "Sargent" but the pen has rubbed off so I'm not sure what any of them are any more :)

Before, during, after. I allow myself a few bottles at the weekend.:)

I'm pretty pleased with the space, I too have been stuck in the kitchen with my grinder which isn't ideal so really needed to expand to somewhere sane, especially since I'm making stuff to give to people recently. I live alone so it wasn't a huge problem but it feels better to have a specific area where I can leave things and come back to them.

Nothing wrong with the sofa for picking, I just started to accumulate so much stuff I needed a place for it to go before it all got lost.

Cheers guys! Happy pickin'.
