Postby paul2 » 18 May 2009 11:34

Hi,

I am really curious what kind of lock this is little bit old and rusted,
I think it is put in somewhere about 1985.
Hope you can help me out here.

Best regards paul :D

Appears to be a warded lock.

Already did some research,

is this the same principal as a lever lock? i think (when i look at the size of the keyhole)
that this lock uses a skelton key?
I's this lock easy to pick or not for the beginner.

Fairly easy with the right tools, a bit different than pin-tumblers.

Warded lockpicks will help, or you can use bent wires (generally more difficult).

Capt.Dunc has a great little article here about these... viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7620

I really appriciate the nice reactions on my topic.
The dutch lockpicking groups are really cold they emidetly think that you want to break in somewhere.
That's not the case, on our ground (farm near arnheim) there is an old world war 2 bunker.
They colsed it up in 1985 they blocked one entrance and the other they put a steel door in whit 2 keyhole's, one on top one down below.
No handle only 2 key hole's, i already tryd to open it up whit what i came up whit on the internet and i could feel the bold moving en like spring load. (maby this changes anything) i just made a pick like 90 degree.

when i put in a blank key it wants to go diagnioaly like it is hitting somthing in the inside ( a ward) i think whit what i haved learnd today.

so i am first planning to make a mark on a blank key and try to cut, i got an how you call it engraving machiene? so i will try to cut it out of a blank.

Any advise is always welcome

Personally, I am less concerned about really old locks. Anything not maintained generally isn't a tasty target for thieves. You do need the standard disclaimer: Any time you try to pick a lock in use, you risk damaging the lock. If it belongs to you and you're willing to take the risk, that's your choice. If it doesn't belong to you - walk away now and call it a day. :)

Why don't I have abandoned and locked WWII bunkers on property I own? I'm envious. :)

I'm sure you've thought about this, but old explosives and other things kept in bunkers are not always healthy to play with. If you do open the door, please be careful.

Can you post some more photos of the door, and locks? Ideally a full door image, and than move closer by 1 step, take another photo, take another step closer, etc... and try to get them all clear shots...

I think that will help with identifying the locks, your current photos are a tad blurry and really close up.

And I think thats fricking cool as well. I wish I had a bunker.. :(
