A little info for a noob

Postby kins » 8 Jun 2009 11:44

Hi there ive recently been bitten by the picking bug :D ive been practicing spp on a couple of padlocks i bought and i found this lock in our work shop at home and wondered if any one could give me some info on it. Ive searched the forum and googled it but with no success. I just wanted to know if it had and security pin's or if any one knew of an exploded diagram of it. just wanted to know about this before i spend to much time picking it because mabey its a bit above my skill level. As far as i can see its a five pin lock so im thinking it doesnt have any security features. The key has aba security locks wolverhampton written on it.

I'm not familiar with ABA locks, but judging by the key bitting, the quality of the key, and the sort of locks they sell (www.abalocks.com) I would say that this is a nice lock to pick for a beginner.
If you can't get it at first ,don't worry, you might want to start with 3 or 4 pin locks first, but this should be a nice beginner 5 pin lock as far as I can tell ;)

Well, you can remove some of the pins of this lock and make it a practice lock.
However, having the right tools to do so will really help.

I have this set which is very very useful when disassembling locks / re-keying locks. ;)

If you want to make it repinnable follow instructions:

1: Dismantle cylinder via circlip on the rear
2: Insert key, turn 90 degrees and extract the plug
3: Use a hardened steel rod to punch out the stack caps
4: Tap the holes
5: Replace wit hgrub screws

Easy peasy :)

Here's what you're aiming for.

I used some M4 x 3mm grub screws and they are perfect.
