Re-Pinning mistake --> Learning Experience

Postby kick_me » 9 Jun 2009 0:37

So I was bored at school, and decided to try taking apart a Schlage lock I had just bought at the locksmith (cylinder only)

took it apart and forgot to use a plug follower (DOH!)

plus, I did it in the cafeteria... not the perfectly clean electronics lab that I had to my disposal....

anywho, I've got to put the springs and driver pins back in now...

I seem to have lost 1 spring though... anyone know where to get a couple that will work? (local preferably, don't want to waste more time waiting :P)

also, I noticed that the cylinder could hold 6 pins.

I take it I could add that in? (assuming I find springs)

Yup, loosing springs can be a bother, but yes, you can add more pins to your lock if that what you want to do

you will need two springs,and extra driver and keypin,+an SC4 blank,to upgrade to 6-pin.

Thanks for the info! I got some springs from the nice old lady at the locksmith shop for free, I wanted to get some '999' keys cut, but the boys weren't in.

I can pick it now fairly easy, 5-pin. :)

I also got another lock from the other shop by my school, it was near closing time, and only an older locksmith was around, I wanted a lock with security pins, he gave me one for free as well. 5 pins with 4-Spool pins... I haven't picked it yet. :?
