Hi everyone, I have tried to search this but its not coming up with anything. Is there a Jane's equivalent on Lock recognition, a place to which you could either refer or study to be able to recognise a lock?

Post a picture of it here. Chances are one of us will recognize it.

The closest thing I know are the key blank directories of key manufacturers showing keyway profiles sorted by brand. The Ilco keyblank directories are free for download on their site. For locksmiths there's software like Kreate-A-Key that is a sort of database program also showing the key depths and spacing. I've looked in the past for a collection of 'logo pictures' different companies have used on their lock, but have never found such a thing.
Did you try smurfing it?

You should make an iphone app, where you take a photo of the keyway, it uploads to a server and it comes back with what type/style and brand name the lock is, and what keyway it is. cheers, Squelchtone

not quite that easy, You would need to know the length of the key, possibly shape of the tip, and have exact measurments of grooves. The profiles have sometimes very small but vital differences. ...as You might allready know.
