Another MTL cutaway - Nicer pins this time

Postby SnowyBoy » 2 Jul 2009 7:38

I was pleased to find these pins inside this MTL that came in the post this morning. Before these two locks I only had 1 like it, the rest were serrated.

Might do the cuts on the actual pins, but not yet.... will do that next week. I wan't this one to be an 'uber cutaway' for my collection

Oh yeah, if anyone has a classic key that fits this cylinder, let me know because I only got 1 key.

Cheers

Might do the cuts on the actual pins, but not yet....

Would the lock still be functional if you did this? And wouldn't the pins rotate on you while picking or simply using the key, making it so that you couldn't really see the pin cut outs?

I would love to see it if you can pull it off though. :D

And do you have any ideas on how to make a cut out for a schlage primus cylinder? Specifically so you could see the side pins in such a way that you can see them line up with the side bar.

As usual your cut outs are the best. And you have inspired me to make some of my own. But with my blurry camera I haven't bothered posting any pictures of them. Mine were done by hand with a file. I have a standard Schlage, a Medeco biaxial, an Assa twin 6000, and an American padlock cylinder all cut out. I just haven't done the Primus I have yet, since I can't figure out a way so you could see any more than the regular Schage.

It is possible yeah. I've done it before. They don't really rotate to be honest, they tend to stay in line with the spring pressure on them. Picking obviously rotates them though.

A 1.5mm 2 flute cutter. But I actually used a 1mm cutter on the MTL in this post

So today I set about cutting the other one :) I failed a cut, so had to change my plan..... turned out okay though.

I also machined the upper pins to show the inner pin, but stopped there because the lowers are hardened steel, so I need to get some special tooling to do that... I'll do that another time though.
