ASSA Twin Combi Cutaway

Postby SnowyBoy » 10 Jul 2009 7:30

Got these in the post this morning. There was 4 in all, and I thought they were all Combi's, but only two were :( The rest are just standard pin tumbler but coded to a combi key.

I got one cutaway this morning already because I had to see these rotating side pins! I thought the ASSA Twin has nice side pins, but this is just amazing!

Just needs a rub down and a polish :)

That looks sweet. Good job. Be sure to post more pics after the polish and rub down.

Very nice job mate!!
What's the difference between a combi and a regular twin?
I believe I have a combi, but I haven't gutted it yet so I'm not sure what's in there ;)

Well, as far as I can see, the side pins act in a similar way to Medeco Biaxial systems. Only in the way the fingers of the side pins sit in the key in a certain way so each is rotated the right angle for the sidebar to fall in. Each sidebar pin is coded too, so they have to go back in where they came from unlike the Twin 6000 where the pins are identical.

The sidebar also works much like the Schlage Primus sidebar. Both mimic the Medeco sidebar but with dedicated sidebar pins instead of the Medeco rotating pin-stack version.

So, did anyone pick one already?
I can imagine it to be much harder then a regular twin. I came close with the regular twin, but it felt like I didn't had any progress on the combi, now I know why :D

Perhaps I should gut it some time to see exactly how it works :P

I believe they've all been picked, but they're all exceptionally hard to pick...Medeco is probably the easiest of these sort of locks, and those are still fairly challenging to an amateur.

Coincidentally enough I just got done taking photos for Lockwiki pages on the Primus/ASSA Twin Combi and V-10 locks the other day...pages will go up as soon as I can do the write-ups for these and some other locks in this batch of updates. I'll link once everything is up.
