Help with Chubb 1K22C or A disassembly

Postby lockaholic » 29 Jun 2009 15:54

I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the cylinder from a Chubb 1K22C or 1K22A. I open the shackle and remove the bolt that runs down the lock from the top to the bottom but this does not release the cylinder. There is a free floating screw in the right side-bottom of the lock but it never engages no matter what I do. I feel retarded!! I dont know if its rusted in or what. I have tried every screw combination i can think of but no luck.

You didn't say if you're using the key or not.. Could try that, perhaps the cylinder needs to be in the right orientation or something?

Try keeping the lock unlocked when you try to remove it, also if it's the AVA mech I believe that there is a "C" clip retaining the cylinder.

Think you need the CONTROL key there instead of just the bog standard OPERATING key. If I am correct it is an IC core.

That's what I was afraid of. Do you know what type of IC mechanism chubb uses?

It looks to me like a standard SFIC core, in which case you may be in luck as you can use a special tension wrench to tension the control sleeve instead of the operating one and pick it to control to remove the core. If your not generally concerned about damaging just the core, you could drill it out and replace with another core. :D

It turns out it is not an IC core lock. I was about to put it in the vice for a drilling and the retaining side pin feel out freeing the cylinder. The cylinder has the exact same dimensions as an LFIC (or SFIC, i forgot) except that there is some milling in the side for the retaining pin to hold the lock. I probably should have tapped it a few times earlier to see if the pin would come out. I am glad i did not drill the cylinder because it's not bad at all. It has 6 anti-drill pins and 3 security top pins.
