Brass lock autospy

Postby Ortin468 » 13 Mar 2010 14:10

Found what I believe an Abus 85/40 clone? (made in china). It was in pretty rough shape, cleaned it up best as possible, tried to pick it. I tried raking and SPP with poor results. I finally gave up and took power tools to it. Turns out it has 4 spool pins and one serrated pin. Surprisingly enough I did in fact clean the lock pretty well. My question is assembly, how is the plug held in place? Should I continue to grind the lock down, or is there a clip or ring holding the plug in place? Disassembly is pretty fun, but I wish to take pictures so others can learn, so I don't want to destroy the lock beyond recognition.

Also, does anyone have a link showing how brass padlocks are make, I would like to see the process, wondering how they hide the holes they made to assemble the lock. Is it a hot process, or do the "fold/press" the brass over the holes. Hot doesn't make sense with the fine springs inside.
