Help Master Lock No 140 noob

Postby san antonio fj » 27 Mar 2010 21:23

Hi All,

Im a noob got and just got my first pick set yesterday :D , I have been picking and opening master lock 605DAT, falcon 5 pin, lockwood 5 pin, American KC-40, and some cheap gun locks. Im having trouble with ML no 140 I can feel what I believe is the spool pin in the second pin stack. Any tips would be appreciated. I also Have 2 No 5's and a No34 trailer lock that I cant seem to pick. I would have never gotten any of these open without all the info here, I was reading as much as I could waiting for my pickset to get here lol. My pickset is the HPC 32 piece if that matters at all

Best of luck, I do believe that the third pin stack in the 140 has the spool, I could be wrong though.

When you get to the spool pin you should notice a "false set" indicated by the plug rotating to about the 1 O'Clock position but not going any further. When that happens lift the pin stacks while lightening the tension just a little bit. Find the one that causes the plug to counter rotate a small bit and lift that one up until it's out of the false set.

Yeah I believe it is the 3rd. I can get it open every once in a while but most of the time while working on getting the spool set pin 1 and sometimes others fall back down causing the spool to unset :( . I cant complain much I guess its only my second day picking

on my 140 the second and third pins are spools I believe because the fourth pin is already at the shear line (I never touch it) and then when i set the first pin it goes into false set.

master 140s usaully have 2 spools in random positions.
i've also seen a few with 3 and even what i guess you could call a serrated pin but the serration is so small it doesn't do anything.

My Master 140 opens like a dream with little tension and a rocking motion used on a c rake.
