Unknown tubular lock?

Postby Vicarious » 21 Apr 2010 22:04

Hey guys, I'm hoping the gurus could help me out with this one.

I have lock but no key :(

I want to replace it with a new one but I can't find anywhere that sells the same type of lock.

It looks like a Tubular Ace lock but it is smaller than all the ones I have found.
It fits in a 1/2" hole and is 1/2" deep thread, I attached a picture to help.

Thanks for the help

I don't have one handy to compare the measurements to, but it looks a lot like the cam locks that I've seen securing the fronts of rack-mounted servers (mostly Sun servers: many of the other vendors use wafer locks).

I'm sure they're also used elsewhere -- but it's the only place that I've seen
four-pin tubular locks that allow the key to be removed in both the locked and unlocked positions (at 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock in your photo).

That makes sense, mine comes from a biometric hand geometry reader.

I will try searching for server locks and the like.

Cheap arsed Chinese tubular locks are not worth replacing (at least with the same). put a cheap Compx lock in.

Not just server cases. My $50 computer case has a tubular lock, pretty much identical to that one. It's only got four pins, too. I don't know if you can source the locks on their own without salvaging it from a case door.

@Vicarious:

What sort of cam did that lock have attached to it...

With smaller case locks like this it is more important to see how the lock is interacting with the case when trying to fit a replacement lock or adapting the case to something new and modifying a cam to fit it properly...

Could the hole in the case be enlarged to fit a normal 7-pin tubular or other cam lock ?
