Abloy PL242 Padlock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Abloy PL242 Padlock

What are the differences of the PL242 vs. the PL 342 exactly? I've searched, but can't fine much information at all. Does Abloy still produce the 242? Does the 242 use the Protec cylinder?
Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

Looks like they start at the 320 size only now with the high profile only,
you may find the 242 was the exec profile.

Size is basically only difference. PL242 is older model and not widely available anymore.
Surprisingly I found several companies still selling it in Norway and the model is offered mainly for boats. Prices vary 1000-1500 NOK.

242 and 342 are both available with any key profile from Classic to Protec and key system may be indicated in model name:
PL242 High Profile
PL242EX Exec
PL242DP Disklock Pro
PL242PT Protec

I guess there' should be no problem installing also Sento cylinder in a 242 either.

Classic cylinder is not offered by default and may not be very common in locks this level. What's the point buying a high security lock with no key security? Still both locks can easily be fitted with Classic cylinder.

Externally? Size.

A PL242 is 55mm wide, 74.7 mm tall (to top of shroud) and 22 mm at its thickest point.

I don't have the measurements of a PL342, but I have one at home if you want specific dimensions?

Either can be used with any key profile, AFAIK. I don't think they still make the PL242, but you'd probably be able to find one in short order if you needed one. If you wanted to know for sure, I'd recommend calling an Abloy reseller.
