Advice needed, is this a good lock for my home:

My max price range is 150, I called several locksmith and they wanted the MSRP for the locks (which were high to begin with). None of them offered me a fixed up deadbolt, just the standard ones.

here is my choice: http://www.handlesets.com/schlage-b662p-double-cylinder-deadbolt-b600-series/p490371

I like how Schlage is low 100s but they have a lot to offer. I am picking double cylinder deadbolts (3 of them) to make my house more secure. At night time, I will have a key in one of them. My house is open design, so I just need one that has a key in it when I am home (incase of fire).

I am also going to buy the cheap (10-15 dollar) door jamp enforcer and the metal plate (door side) to make the door more secure incase of kick ins. (I am going to place several 3 inch screws in the hinges on the frame side too.

Do you recommened me any other products that are just as good that I can buy online? Is the schlage 600 series line good locks for the price that I am willing to spend? Any alts. or suggestions are welcome. My home does have a monitored security system too.

That lock is commercial grade and will work. I do recommend checking your doors backset because the bolt is non adjustable.

Depending on your location, it would be prudent to check with your local fire marshal as to allowing double cylinder locks. If you choose to install them, you do so at your own peril.

Insurance companies will look for any reason to deny a claim. If you are broken into and have double cylinder locks in a jurisdiction that doesnt allow them, your insurance will be void.

Also, if a burglar breaks in and a fire were to start and they cannot escape easily, you could potentially be charged with negligent homicide, be sued by the burglars family, insurance is void and you go to jail, get a fine etc etc.

There are many alternatives to the Schlage range that are competitively priced and way under $150.

If it is security you are after, then look at strengthening the door frames before putting on an expensive lock on a door that can be easily kicked open.

Hi crito

If you are going to leave the key in the internal lock all the time when the house is occupied, I presume that there are no glazed panels in or next to the door and no opening in the door (in the UK most doors have letterbox cutouts) through which the lock could be reached.

In any of these cases, it would be possible for a burglar to access the lock and turn the key, so you would not be much more secure than if you had an internal thumbturn while you were in the house (although it would be more secure when the house was empty and the key was removed).

Cheers...
