Can anyone please tell me how i can get a key or what kind of lock this is. It fits into a brass 1 1/4 swivel nut.

ummm, we've seen plenty of people trying to get into their own or other people's Coke machines, parking meters, cable tv junction boxes, and other public and municipal style locks, but I think this is the first water main lock we've ever been asked about.

I'm gonna assume this is a lock the city put on your water main because a bill wasn't paid, and if my assumption is implying too much, then I apologize, but I'm not sure anyone here would be willing to help you ID or get into this lock.

As hobby lock pickers we have some rules that we play by, and one of them is not to teach people how to get into locks that allow them to get free stuff or free services, and we also do not practice on locks that are currently in use, so that lock would be off limits. Even if you own this lock which I doubt because, c'mon, who has a lock on their water main and has a key for it, but even if this was legit, and we helped you out, someone down the road visiting this forum and trying to be up to no good, would read our answers and learn all sorts of things they would use for their personal gain.

Also, is that photo you posted photoshopped and colored? Post a pic of the original photo, it will probably be easier to work with than looking at all the colors. And try using the macro feature on the camera, becuase it looks like it focused on the ground, not on the lock. Some scale refernce would be great too, can you put a dollar bill or something common next to the lock while you take the picture, even marked up with 3/8 this and 1/4 inch that, its hard to imagine the scale.

It could also not be a lock at all, and just be a custom socket like the custom shaped sockets and nuts that keep your nice rims secure to your car so someone doesn't remove them with a common socket set.

Figured it out myself. This is called a plug lock. Whats this forum called again? I used some plumbers putty and pressed up against the pattern.I then used a 5/8 sixteen point thin walled socket and did a little grinding to match it up. off in no time. If i wanted info on Photoshop or camera settings, I'm pretty sure i would have went to that forum.Have fun with your hobby..

Figured it out yourself? You sure my last paragraph didn't give you any ideas? This forum is lockpicking101.com, not helpsomejerkIDarandomutilitysecuritysocket.com

Your socket device doesn't qualify as what most of us would call a lock. You ungrateful jerk. Piss off and have a nice day.

We are not stupid. That is obviously a lock to a CATV junction box. It is also illegal to steal utilities of any kind!
