Lots of questions I've been thinking up lately. Hopefully I can get a few answers.

1.) The locks typically found on file cabinets are "cam locks", right?

2.) Not all pins are universal sizes, correct? I know they aren't in padlock vs. deadbolt, but can you trade pins from an American padlock with a Master Lock or Abus, etc.?

3.) Why are deadbolts harder to pick than padlocks? I can pop a Brinks or Abus padlock open in 5-30 seconds, but a padlock fitted with an Schlage SC core, I get no luck on even after hours of trying.

4.) In a quick sentence, what exactly are binding pins?

5.) Any sites where you can buy various types of security pins in order to re-pin various locks?

6.) Which door lock models are most resistant and/or complex to drilling?

7.) Hardest to pick - ASSA V10 or Mul T Lock MT5+, and how much harder is one vs. the other?

Wafer cams are used for a variety of things, metal sliding drawer type filing cabinets are one of them. I don't know if they're always used for those types of unit, but they are the most common.

2.) Not all pins are universal sizes, correct? I know they aren't in padlock vs. deadbolt, but can you trade pins from an American padlock with a Master Lock or Abus, etc.?

I assume you mean diameter, in which case yes pins from similar locks will fit... but not always.

3.) Why are deadbolts harder to pick than padlocks? I can pop a Brinks or Abus padlock open in 5-30 seconds, but a padlock fitted with an Schlage SC core, I get no luck on even after hours of trying.

This has nothing to do with the format of the lock... there are many types of deadbolt and many types of padlock, there are easy/tricky/downright impossible locks in both categories. If you're asking why a basic deadbolt is harder to pick than a basic padlock, the answer is you... just gotta practice more

When you apply turning force to the plug, one of the pins will bind against the inside of its chamber due to imperfections in the machining tolerances of the lock - a binding pin will stay set when lifted to its correct height because a lip is created between the upper and lower chamber as the pins come to shear.

5.) Any sites where you can buy various types of security pins in order to re-pin various locks?

Not that I'm aware of. LAB supplies spool pins and there are some other places you can buy small packets of spools but there isn't anywhere dedicated to selling just security pins.

6.) Which door lock models are most resistant and/or complex to drilling?

Not really my area, so I'll sit out on this one. Mortice locks are more complicated though as you need to first identify the lock then find the correct drill point for it.

7.) Hardest to pick - ASSA V10 or Mul T Lock MT5+, and how much harder is one vs. the other?

I'd probably say the MT5+ as there are 3 locking components... there are 6 telescoping pin tumblers, which are smaller than the interactive pins, so setting the outer pins is trickier. There is also the alpha spring which complicates picking (not sure if I'm allowed to say why) and a sidebar which uses a slider mechanism similar to the 3KS.

The V-10 is also an extremely difficult lock to pick, although compared to the MT5+ there are only 2 locking components. In terms of blind picking, they're both very tough locks... but it's subjective, someone who picks a lot of ASSA Twins will crack the ASSA easier, someone who picks a lot of MTLs will get the MT5+ easier.

If the sidebar code for both locks can be simulated then I'd say the MT5+ will be harder because of the telescoping pins and alpha spring. There are ways of opening a Twin quite easily if the sidebar code is known, which won't apply to the MTL design.

8.) Hardest to drill - ASSA V10 or Mul T Lock MT5+?

No idea.
