How do you practice on deadbolts?

I posted something similar in another thread, but it wasn't very clear and it was too much for one topic.

So - how do you all practice on deadbolts? I think I've spoiled myself by practicing like this:



Unfortunately, either it's not possible or I've not figured out yet how to get anywhere near the tension and pick control when picking a mounted lock. Am I doing myself a disservice to practice with the lock in hand as shown? I've got a practice 3-cylinder stand, but it's really lightweight and has been a pain so far.

How do you all practice your deadbolts?

Wow - those guys make the scrap 2x4s I mounted some locks in look like the total crap that they are!
