hockey puck lock

Postby shortlineflyer » 2 Mar 2011 10:32

Hey everybody

I was just given a masterlock rekeyable hockey puck lock and have been trying to pick it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or techniques to open one of these?

Also, are there any suggestions for which picks I should use to open this lock?

thank you.

Pick it like any other lock, there are no tips or tricks I can give ya for that specific type... just find a good way to tension it comfortably, making a wrench for it if necessary, and get picking. It's only a master lock.

As for picks, there is no pick that works best on x lock. Doesn't work like that, it's all about what you're comfortable with. If it maneuver easily in the lock, use it. Start off with a short hook and if it doesn't have enough reach for certain pins, use something longer. Same goes for any lock. Just keep practicing and you'll get it. :D

And depending on the shape of the keyway, you might want to try placing the tensioner at the top of the keyway and see if that will work better.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

good suggestion Eyes, its important to have the turning force as close to the center as possible to prevent binding and skewing of the plug.

Good advice on the tension. Master locks generally don't need TOK tension as there is so much space, regardless of bitting... but yes on some of them it can bind the plug and make things akward, so TOK is always a good idea anyway. :)

Are you holding the lock in your hand, or is it in a vice? Try the other way for a laugh. also try different orientations. What ever works the best for you. My hands get tired fast holing a paperweight like that.
