looking for a really tough padlock

Postby meastabrook » 20 May 2011 23:04

im trying to deside on a padlock, one that can take a KIK, im looking into a high security brand to start off but they dont make padlocks. Later i want to get Mul-t-lock when i can afford the system because their E-Series padlocks are pretty sweet. and once i get MTL, the other high security brand will become strickly key control.

I would appreciate everyones opinion.

Master Lock Pro Series lock are compatible with several types of cores.
One I can remember and verify for sure is an Assa v10 in a Master Pro Series body.

Here`s a topic posted a few days ago, if the above is infact something you`re looking for.

masterlock 6230 is a pretty good lock at a decent price. As you mentioned Mul-T-Lock is very good as well. I don't know of any heavy duty padlocks like the 6230 that will accept a standard KIK Cyl. Most of those are smaller, all brass padlocks. Similar in size to a Master No.5. It's a decent lock, but nothing close to a 6230.

I like the Abus 83 series padlocks. I sell a ton of them and they've been reliable for me. They're serviceable so the internal parts can be replaced if needed. The Abus 83KnK/45 padlock has a brass body. The Abus 83KnK/55 as it has a hardened steel body if you need something a bit tougher. Abus makes a lot of different 83 series padlocks but if "KnK" is in the model number they accept a KIK cylinder so you can choose if you want a high security cylinder or something a bit more run-of-the-mill like Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser or whatever.

I don't know if this is in the league you're looking for (probably not), but it's a fairly tough pick. The only one in my modest collection on my "haven't picked" list. :D

For $15 you could do a lot worse!
