Current State of Deadbolts - Medeco / Mul T

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Current State of Deadbolts - Medeco / Mul T

What is the current status of the Mul T MT5 and or Medeco Maxum Deadbolt Line.

Still too easy to be picked or bumped ?

The only reason I ask is for the application of where it's going - I'd prefer a deadbolt that would be available in Satin Nickel finish.

I'm not sure I understand your question, neither has ever been 'too easy' to pick or bump, both require significant effort and tools to open them. Depending on the cylinder style and exact model, some may be bypassed or exploited/defeated easier and faster than picking or bumping (Adams Rite Trip Wires, etc.)

I thought the whole Medeco and Mult issue -- were fairly easily bumpable locks.

Not at all in the same ballpark as let's say buying a Schlage SC1 or Kwikset KW1 bump key. That's the hard part about this, Medeco has 50 or more keyways, and you'd have to carry 4 or 16 'bump' keys with you and those would only fit 1 keyway. As for Multlock, I don't know, I think some crooked locksmiths will make you a bump key for the Garrison and Interactive, but it's not something you're easily doing at home with a Dremel and sandpaper. At least, like I said at the start, not as easy as Kwikset or Schlage bump key making or using.

What's your actual thing you're trying to lock up, maybe we should start there and then we can recommend a BEST, a BiLock, and Abloy, a Medeco, a Mul-T-Lock, or maybe something entirely different.

Front Door and well as Rear Door.

Both have a baldwin entrance lock with SC1 keyway in Satin Nickel Finish.

I'm looking for deadbolt options in Satin Nickel.

Looking at Medeco Maxum or Mult5 - in Satin Nickel.
& or schalge 660 Deadbolt body with either a bilock or protec cylinder.

I have used protecs alot (have a couple of their padlocks as well as have had their locks in my previous house). Just wanted something that would match the finish and be a good layer of protection . Doors are alarmed as well as motion with cellular radio for reporting.

id say its very unlikely that any crook has the knowledge and skill to bump either of those locks. :P

thanks all. Go figure. We get so wrapped in in those tobias bumplock videos....that Protec was my defacto lock --- aside from trying to match the finish on my new house which satin nickel is not available
