Where are some good places to go to get locks?

Postby Daggers » 17 Dec 2011 10:15

I checked ebay out and all the results are either folding knives (they came up because of their locking mechanism) or really old antique locks. Im looking for locks such as schlage, kwikset, or any other cylinder lock for me to practice on. Ones that are commonly used. I dislike master locks. On craigslist, all the results are of cars being sold??? Is there a good place to get a bag of locks for cheap? They cost like $30 seperately at home depot new. And i haven't been a member here long enough to use the buy/sell/trade forum on here yet.

You can BUY items with less that 25 posts and 60 days, not just sell or trade.

During the summer, I often stop by yard sales and can sometimes find treasure troves of practice locks. Also, if you have any "bargain" stores in your area that sell Miscellaneous items and their inventory is constantly changing, you can sometimes find treasures there (and often they have no idea what it is they have and sell them for much cheaper than you could find them anywhere else) Target sells Brinks brand locks and padlocks that are challenging and very reasonably priced. I have never come across a brinks lock that doesn't have spool pins in it. Ace hardware also has their own brand of padlock that usually has spool pins and are fairly cheap.

get your self a double deadbolt generic kwikset from lowes/homedepot for 12 dollars. should be good to get you started with. and there are plenty of cheap beginner locks on ebay.
