Questions... Did you file the groove in the customer's padlock for the driver pin holder, or do Almont locks come with that groove? If not, would it be possible to use the edge of the keyway as a place for the tool holding the driver pins in place, and use a proper key with the bottom edge filed away to install the rekeyed plug?
You would have to install the plug 180 degrees out of alignment until the plug is far enough inserted to hold all the driver pins, then flip over the plug to insert the rest of the way to fully insert the plug. Then you can remove the modified key and tool, without having to cut a groove in the side of the plug.
Perhaps it would not work, but it seems that it might.
