Now we just need Commando to make more boron shackles for the iChange locks. Then we can convert all of our Commando locks with normal hardened shackles to boron shackles.

^Seriously...I have an extra short shackle that I plan on cutting but I'd like a boron shackle to compare it to. I just noticed on the I-Change page they also offer a brass shackle which is out of stock too. I'm sure other people have tried but I'm going to e-mail Patrick and see if I can get some.

I sent an e-mail to commando lock about the shackles and Patrick just called me to talk about the locks and to tell me the other shackles won't be available for a few more months. They are also working on new designs for next year with a yale keyway and a shackle guard for the I-Change series locks but as most of us have found out you could put them on any of them by picking them CCW. I'm currently using one of the I-Change locks on a truck that our normal Master 6527's won't fit on so I actually have a business need for a long boron shackle, not just a personal curiosity. We also frequently get shipping containers that we can't fit our normal locks on so the extended shackles work perfectly.

I also shot Patrick a PM and got a reply today, stating that it would be a few months before the boron shackles and new cylinders would be available.

I will say that he has continually impressed me as caring what the customer has to say, and listening to the customers and the locksport/locksmithing community as to recommended improvements for his product. This is a company that will be going places.

I couldn't agree more. I've also traded a few PMs with him and I have to say I've been nothing but absolutely impressed that they've taken the position of listening to feedback from their customers and the locksport community. There's so many lock manufacturers out there all vying for a spot in a very competitive market, but the only way to win in this environment is to adapt to their market's needs.

I'm anxiously awaiting their new designs... I have a feeling i'm going to be buying a lot of these locks =)

I think it is time for me to say something here.
I have been in personal contact with Patrick for some time now and also found a few issues on his locks. Nothing serious but things that could be improved in the future.

I highly appreciate it that he his open for suggestions and constantly wants to improve his padlocks and also his cores. I have written a full report of nearly 2 word pages and passed him these suggestions. I have also made a video on one of the issues being found. I decided it would just be fair to give him some time to work on another issue that I have found and did not mention it in my official video.

Exceptional good padlocks with a cool name and they come at a very good price!
I would highly appreciate it if he would improve them even more and I am really looking forward to that :)

Gentlemen,

WE HEAR YA! As we end 2012, I thank each of you for your grand input and kind words about my company Commando Lock. I know that no padlock is undefeatable but thanks to your advice, our 2013 models are going to be one step closer than without. We remain excited and equally anxious to complete the new cylinder design and testing so we can get them out to you. The best part is, this next design isn't the end for us. I say we pick it apart and continue this conversation all year so that in 2014 we're in the same place again but ever closer yet.

Happy New Year! And very best regards from my family to you and yours,

Patrick Smith

Patrick: Thanks again for the phone call. I'm looking forward to your new products!

Not sure what was in those tacos I had late last night but I had the best night/morning of picking I've ever had.

Some of these had much more difficult bitting and I had to cheat and look at the key. I've finally started to be able to read the feedback of a lock better. I have Peterson spring steel picks and I bent my hook, deforest, and reach when picking these locks. I seriously need to upgrade to the government steel picks. Sometimes you just need to give the pin stack that extra kick and the pick doesn't appreciate it very much.

Easy-e,

Good job on the pick. I'll try to send you a tougher combination of pins next time! Let me know how the other locks pick when you get a chance to work em over.

Thanks,

Patrick

I just saw the photos of your shackless locks! You'll be able to replace all of them with the boron alloy shackles. Good job on the counter rotation pick. I'm okay with that.

Sounds good!

After I pick them a few more times I'm going to dissect one of each and take a look at the pins. I saw the pictures other people have posted and the youtube videos so I'm excited to see these double spools for myself!
