Commando Lock New Generation Boron Shackle Y1+ Keyway

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Either way Y11 will not suit it...

The distributor from Patrick did understand what we said and produced the right product.
I will have a talk with my locksmith telling him that Y1, Y1+ and Y2 may look the same and have the same profile but not the same size. I believe he misunderstood me there.

I am sorry for that mistake but in the End it did work and everyone knew what we meant.

Now I only have to redo the video containing the right information so that people like jeff can get the right blank!

I will say that Jeff has always been a courteous, respectful and helpful gentleman in all interactions I have had with him. My post earlier was because I suspected a miscommunication of some sort. I think he was trying to clarify things not for Dicey (who is capable of figuring things out), but for the newer users who may not yet understand all of our terminology, and therefore be confused. It appears he was trying to be his normal, helpful self, and not attempting to be critical.

Dicey, I did like your video review of the prototype locks.

Dicey,

I tried to get along with you in the past... I even tried to help you deal with problems you were having with people on a 3rd site... but you wouldn't have that. The fact is, you're just an extremely paranoid person with ZERO self-confidence who lashes out at people who are attempting to help. No-one is talking "behind your back." This is a forum... there is no guarantee that anyone is going to be around to read a reply at any given moment... replying to a post is NOT talking behind someone's back. Anyway, I thought you were done with the lockpicking world. At least anyone who read your grand pronouncements of egress would certainly think so. Get a grip, go see a psychiatrist and get some meds to deal with your unbalanced self. Oh and grow up too.

Have a wonderful life!

The Y11 blank and keyway is actually SMALLER than the Y52 blank and keyway. Again, Y11 is a disc/wafer lock and not a pin tumbler lock.

This is actually true I have used Y11 for 35+ years for most common 5 wafer tumbler locks. Know to me as the ever so common Ilco 01122 as that is what we have always used.

Y1 or Ilco 999 is for standard 5 pin tumbler locks has a shoulder on top and bottom of the blank

Y52 or Ilco 997E is for small 5 pin tumbler locks has shoulder on top only.

Y11 is for 5 wafer tumbler locks the most common wafer locks in my area.

As you can see Y52 compared to Y1 is shorter, narrower and has no bottom shoulder.

I am actually astonished this has even been argued as Y11 is day and night different from Y1. And Y52 is much smaller than Y1.

Hope this clears it up this for anyone that is confused about the difference.

Not to mention, Y11 isn't paracentric.

In Germany you could probably use one of the Abus blanks which are very similar to the Y52.

The Y52 is wider and milled a little different than the Abus.
But might work if the keyway isn't too tight and the lock doesn't have any near 0 cuts.

Yes, but I have used the two many times interchangeably. Usually I use the Y52 for the Abus and sometimes it needs a swipe of the file on the bottom of the key at an angle so that it doesn't drag, but the two are very close.

Yes it's easy to remove some from a Y52 for an Abus than not have enough using an Abus for a Y52. No shallow cuts they are interchangeable. :D

Cledry, MrWiz: Dicey was banned so he can't answer. Thought I should mention it, otherwise it looks strange.

You're correct in that he's no longer here.

What actually happened was that he broke forum rules several times. As I understand it he was sent private messages by lp101 admin asking him to familiarize himself with, and follow the forum rules, but he continued to disregard them. He was warned publicly in forum threads a couple of times and when that failed to get the message through, after another violation of a forum rule he was sent a final warning in a PM saying that he would be banned if he continued to disregard the rules. At which point he replied why he felt his actions were justified despite the rules and said "I am leaving myself so if you want to ban me you can do that if not I will stay away."

He has now "resigned" from at least three internet lockpicking forums that I know of claiming that he was being bullied (mobbed is the term he used), although he has resumed posting on one of them despite his previous departure. Outside links are normally not permitted on lp101 but this one is particularly relevant, in case anyone doubts the veracity of what I've said here.
http://www.antique-locks.com/showthread ... esignation

I've since been told that in posts on another forum that he denies he told the admins on any forum to go ahead and ban him, as he did here, and that the people on the "American forums" were persecuting him and talking about him behind his back.

I've never had a problem with Dicey personally. In fact, I always thought I got along with him rather well. For someone who claims he's being unfairly talked about behind his back, he's doing his own fair share of that as well.

Drama seems to follow wherever he goes, but I wish him well, regardless of all of that.

Well that is too bad he cannot just get along. I figured he was gone but continued to post here relevant info for others regarding these particular keys in case anyone still was confused or would like to know my opinion with pictures for verification. :)

So the thread can continue without him I would think as there is good info close to the bottom. :D

BTW a M18 looks to be the same as a Y52...just to throw more wrenches into the mix!
