Padlock information

Does anyone have any information about this type of lock? I have never seen keys like that before.

Marduk28 or GWiens2001 will probably know about this mechanism. It reminds me of the ABA Pagoda and the old Wise Concentric mechanism, but it also has an Abloy disc detainer feel to it.

Thanks for sharing it,

Was able to play with one of those for an hour or so before forwarding it to another member overseas. Did not get to take it apart, but by the feel of the key and my picking, Squelchtone has hit it pretty solidly as a combination of the ABA lock and an Abloy.

While the ABA lock uses concentric washers (instead of concentric pins in a Wise-Lock or MTL) that are pushed to align with grooves in the housing, this lock feels like it added a sidebar to the mix. It felt as if the washers are pushed to align with slots in the sidebar. Probably best to describe the slots in the sidebar as gates, with no gates on the washers/discs.

Still want to buy one of these so it can be disassembled and photograph the internals. It should make a great writeup when I finally get one. Too bad funds are tight.

Anyway, that is all I got on that lock at this time. Oh, and I did not sucessfully get the lock picked in the hour I had before it had to get back in the mail.

Awesome, thanks for the information. I may have to buy one to take a closer look.

I have a couple of these locks and Gordon is correct about how they work. The key tapers and each section pushes a spring loaded piece to the correct depth. When they are all in place the side-bar drops in and the key can turn. I took one of mine apart just a little bit because I was very afraid of losing one or more of the tiny springs that are in the mechanism. That is one problem with the locks I have; when I messed around trying to pick it,I almost ruined one of them because the internals are very delicate and there are many, many springs. One of the rings kind of slipped sideways and I had a time getting it corrected. I'm not sure if you experienced that or not Gordon, but they seem rather delicate. I posted pictures of one of them a while back, but didn't take the guts out of the lock. Perhaps I will do that in the next day or two. They are cool locks though. Although they may be very susceptible to vandalism and the metal is cheap, reeeaally cheap! :P

Here is the post I made a long time ago:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=57335&p=418185#p418185

No pictures of the insides, but here it is all the same. Did you pick one of these Gordon? They are weird feeling when you try to push the rings down and mine got all screwed up. You said you used two hooks to push the rings down, but I couldn't do it without something going wrong. I guess you've got the magic touch!
