Hybrid American 5200

I happened to notice this lock laying in the gutter one day while I was doing some work around Ft. Hood (Army Base in Texas) ..



One of the first thing I noticed was that the keyway is not the normal keyway.. Best I can figure it is a Master K27 or K81 keyway ..



I struggled to pick the lock open and finally drilled the retainer nut .. Even after several washes with brake cleaner .. As I figured the internals were dirty causing the key and driver pins to stick together.. but the big surprise was the anti-bump pin ..



This is my first lock with a anti-bump pin.. So I will order some parts, impression a key, and get the lock back to working condition

Since Master bought out American many years ago, you will see a great many of these 5200's with Master keyways.

Yes, the current run of US 5200 GL padlocks are Master keyway.

And they use the BumpStop pins.

That is a innovative new feature brought to you by Master Lock. It allows you to quickly remove the lock from the hasp when you have no key.

I will say, when my job requires the removal of an unauthorized or abandoned lock, that's a feature I appreciate . Takes all of a second and a half to activate Master's quick release with a marginally decent pair of bolt cutters.
