Lock ID help

Postby bobbyblank » 10 Jan 2015 0:24

Hello all, noticed this in a trash can at work today and decided to take it home and add to my collection. I was wondering if anyone would beable to help ID this Sesame type padlock. There are no manufaturers marks anywhere on the case, no markings at all really. Havent had much time to check it out, its been a busy day. I did slide my feeler gauge i use to decode master 175s between the dials to see if i could feel anything similar, but didnt feel much honestly and didnt have time to investigate further. Any insite to who the matufacture may be, or techniques into getting it open without splitting the case would be great. I am attempting to post photos, but havent spent time on many forums in quite some time, so we will see haha.

thank you

Are you sure it isn't a Presto? The construction is way too cheap for sesamee
Is there a combo change feature on one of the sides?

I honestly cannot think of any way to explain how to open it that wouldn't result in this becoming advanced so I'll let someone else try that

I am not sure, no. Havent been able to find one like it yet. but not the best google(er) haha. I just ment sesame type, I agree it is fairly cheap construction. There is no combo change on side of lock.

I really like Presto locks. You can reset the combo with the shackle if you find the original combination.

One thing I like and respect about the Presto lock is their prices have not gotten too high, they know the value of their product and from what I've seen
they aren't trying to rip off anyone

Was at my favorite lock shop on Saturday, and found that Sesamee DOES make that exact style of lock. They had a one on the wall for sale...

So it may be a Presto, it may be a Sesamee. Or it may be another unmarked brand.

I think CCL owns the rights to that name, I have an old box here from the 1960's for a model 436N Padlock which has Sesamee on it and a Corbin logo. It also says Corbin Cabinet Lock Division, The American Hardware Corp, New Britain Connecticut. That must be what CCL stands for, and I didn't correlate that until just now =)

EDIT: the box had some nice instructions inside, I just took a photo for ya'll

Cool find Gordon, I need to visit my local lockie soon and poke around.

CCL (formerly Corbin Cabinet Lock Co) and Corbin (Formerly the American Hardware Company) split from each other some time ago. CCL originated the Sesamee brand for some of it's padlocks, while Corbin became Corbin-Emhart (when it was purchased by the Emhart Corp.), then Corbin-Russwin when that was taken over by Black & Decker and merged with their Russwin subsidiary some time in the 1960's. This is what I managed to piece together from the brief 'company history' pages on CCL and Corbin-Russwin's web sites.
