Two weird locks

Postby send9 » 17 Jan 2015 4:37

Hello!

I have two weird locks...

Image

One is a Hong Chen / Hongzhen I bought directly from China via AliExpress. The key reminds me of a warded lock. Inside the core is a spring that the key pushes down. When locked, the spring tension pushes the key back out.

The ABA is something I bought from eBay. I believe it's for an arcade or something like that. The key has several tiers (?), and appears to push wafers (?) inside, not up or down. There is also a ball near the entrance of the keyway that fits into the little hole you see in the key. I found a few ABA posts but not finding this lock.

As you can tell I don't know much about these locks. Does anyone have any info on them, such as how they work / what 'type' they're considered, etc?

Thanks!

The first lock is an ABA Pagoda. It is a push type wafer lock.
Each reduced diameter section of the key pushes another wafer a specific depth into the lock. If all wafers are pushed to the correct depth, the wafers are aligned to grooves milled into the house, at which point you are able to turn the plug.

The second lock seems to have a similiar mechanism.

Thank you!

The Hongchen is a different design, but you might be right as the bottom of the key does have tiers. I haven't found/seen wafers in there but they could be hiding at bottom/under spring.
