I want to thank CheerIO!!

Postby UnlockingBoredom » 26 Apr 2015 13:59

I really want to thank CheerIO (dont know if his name is known so I wont put it out there)
He sent me a box of locks to pick and boy was I excited when I got it!!! I set out to pick the easy ones first and knocked them out in about 10 minutes. Here they are...

Falcon lock
Falcon core for my Falcon lock
Yale 5 wafer lock
Gaurd Security 4 pinner that is tiny and hard to get a pick in there along with the tension wrench....
Chatuau 5 pin lock with a very narrow keyway (I guess I should have put up a pick of that..
Master combination lock
Pacific Lock 5 pinner (feels like some nice spools and maybe a serrated in there.

Then I started looking at this little lock to see how to open it..

I can see the inside and how to make a key for it but after exploring with a few things I dont feel anything inside that would move to let it open.. oh well, I will see after making the key for it out of a piece of feeler gauge.. It sure is a cool looking lock!!!!

Now to the ones that are going to give me hours of frustrating picking or searching on how to pick...

I have never picked a tubular lock so I will be looking up how to make a tension wrench for it.. I figure its kind of like picking a regular pin tumbler lock, tension and see where the binding pin is and work from there.

The Corbin Russwin (Assa Abloy) Holly crap that one is going to be fun to pick! as well as the BEST IC... I cant want to get that one out and picked open so I can see about making a key for it.... I guess I could impression it after I pick it a few times of course.

I wanted to post here what a nice guy CheerIO was in sending me these locks and trusting me to send some back when I build up a few cool ones.

Oh, I almost forgot... I dont know what this goes too but my auto jigglers wont really fit so it looks like SWP'ing (single wafer picking) to me

Thanks CheerIO!!!

Very nice, I just did a trade with him!
If you do get the Best core picked to control, myself or others can decode the core and cut operating and control keys.

Thank you for the kind words. :D

I remember when I first started and I didn't really have a bunch of locks. And the ones I did have were pretty much all the same.

So I tried to send you as much an assortment of different things as I could.

And again, don't rush to send something back. I'm just glad you're enjoying the locks, have fun with them!

Pieces of advice:
1. Tensioning a tubular lock is initially confusing but ultimately pretty easy (I would go into detail if it weren't for fear of the admins and recovering from a week of teaching picking at a film festival), a tubular pick (while very specialized) will make short work of tubular locks, SPPing them means that you will be re-picking them every few degrees of the turn.
2. Tensioning a Best SFIC is easy, but you need to be sure you are tensioning the shearline you want to pick. Also, thin/skinny picks are your friend with Best keyways, over 0.020" wide just won't cut it.
3. It may lack finesse, but, my Peterson wafer jigglers or snowman rarely let me down with all but the most obtuse wafer locks.
