Popular Mechanics Padlocks

I wrote about the Popular Mechanics branded padlocks I found.

Today, I decided to open one of the larger ones, thinking it would be an easy pick.

I have a concussion and I am not feeling well, but resting is difficult.

I opened what I thought would be the easier of the locks.

Well, it has 5 pins, plus security driver pins (spools or mushrooms), and a tricky bitting.

If I had known about that before opening it, I wouldn't have continued.

But I got it eventually.



I wonder when this was sold? I would not expect a lock sold in Wal-Mart to have that kind of internals.

I found out about these Popular Mechanichs padlocks through this site. It seems to be on a similar security level as Yuma kilit. Would be nice to own one, it has a cool sounding brand name too. Is the lock resistant to bypass techniques?

As far as I can tell, it is shielded.

Popular Mechanics is a magazine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_Mechanics). It appears they had branded some home DIY equipment with their name and it was sold at Wal-Mart.

I originally found it by finding this in an eBay listing. It is a lot of four small Popular Mechanics padlocks:



Then I saw the others, and had to have them too. I do not think they are being sold anymore.

I spent the last hour and a half trying to pick one of these. I got lucky once, using a Peterson snake rake, rocking & raking, with the tension wrench at the bottom of the keyway, but I've yet to repeat my success. Any tips?
