Master M530 core

Postby dontlook » 24 May 2016 19:12

So i took apart my Master M530 and wanted to take the core apart. It appears to be pinched to hold the plug in the shell. I destroyed the pinch on one side so at a certain point in the rotation the core is removable.
1) Does anyone know if there is a way to do this without taking a screwdriver to it?

2) It looks like it may be able to take a standard clip of some sort instead? Has anyone tried this or have experience with it?

This is the core pinch on the non screw driver tampered with side:

There is supposed to be a flat part of the plug that fits where that pinch is located. I have found this is not always the case. Normally, I do exactly what you did.

Yeah I did briefly play with it to look for that. The pinch is on both sides though, so that side remained intact but the one 180 degrees offset from there was removed with prejudice.

1. It can be repinned through the holes in the bottom without completely taking it apart.

2. Pick to rotate the plug so the bottom of the keyway is in line with the crimped retainer. Use a very small screwdriver or other similar made tool to gently bend the crimp back out. Now turn the plug around so the bottom of the keyway is in line with the other side. The plug will probably slip out now. If not, bend it out a little also.

3. A spring clip will not work as a retainer without doing a good bit of machining. It is basically not worth the effort.

Can't you just file the lip off the back of the cylinder?

Yes you most certainly can file the back off. But then you have to worry about getting a snap ring that is the correct thickness without being too large to fit into the lock.

As a commercial locksmith this is too much trouble to be worth the necessary time. For a hobbiest, go for it.

Hmm, oh that does make sense that it can be repined through the bottom. For some reason I thought those holes were just smaller than the pins.
Thanks!
