What makes automotive locks different?

Postby sisk » 26 Jun 2016 12:10

So, pure curiosity, what's different about automotive locks? I've never tried one, but when you look at the tools for them they're clearly working on different principles than regular pin-tumbler locks.

Note, I'm not asking how to pick them. I get that ya'll don't know me well enough to trust that I'm not just trying to steal cars. I'm just curious what's so different about them that they need such different tools. If you can't tell me that without giving some car thief some tips just say so and I'll completely understand.

We cannot open this door here because it will very quickly go from people replying about types of locks straight to how to pick them.

Automotive stays in automotive forums even if the question isnt about how to pick a car door or ignition.

Car locks are mostly wafer locks, google or search youtube for some breakdowns if youre curious to learn more.
