Hi there!
Just joined the forum and not quite sure if this is the right place to post this message. But since it says "general information" I'll give it a try.
The reason I wrote this is that while reading some nice info here I noticed all the guessing on Abloy's location and so on. Since I live in Finland and Abloy is Finnish I just had to tell you the facts. Company history on Abloy's website: http://www.abloy.com//users/34/72.cfm. Or in case the link doesnt work just go to www.abloy.com and click Company -> Profile -> History.
The word "abloy" actually is an abbreviation of some kind. The ab stands for "AktieBolaget" which is corporation in Swedish. The L in the middle means just "lukko" which is "a lock" in Finnish. And the oy is the same as ab but in Finnish, "OsakeYhtio". It used to be Ab Lukko Oy as you can see in the history but propably got shorter while speaking.
Sorry if this seems like nagging but I just wanted to clear things out. Ok?
