Schlage Keypad Doorlock (problems picking)

Postby dtm1982 » 15 Mar 2018 22:22

Hi,

I'm a locksmith and I came across one of these on the job: https://www.schlage.com/en/home/product ... FFACC.html

I'm OK at picking and I typically don't have problems with spool pins. It didn't help that the key way was sideways as I'm used to picking vertically, but I just couldn't get this one; I ended up drilling it (didn't have an under the door tool and I couldn't bypass it). But this was the problem when picking it: setting pin 5 would create a false set and pin 4 would cause the counter-rotation and cause another false set. Pins 3 and 2 would not budge and pin 1 would curiously make a click and cause the core to create an even deeper false set (this is what made no sense to me, I've never seen something like this happen). If I continued to push pin 1, as none of the other pins would even budge, it would cause a counter-rotation but as soon as it got close to the sheer line, I would hear all the other pins fall down. This happened repeatedly and I made sure to use enough tension when trying to set pin 1 as to make sure there wasn't too much counter-rotation.

I thought it might have been T-pins but I I've picked F-series locks and it didn't feel like that at all. Or maybe they were but I'm just confused about what T-pins are and what they feel like?

Does anybody have any idea what I was experiencing?

Thanks!
