Help identify 6 pin SFIC

Postby Bob23 » 23 Apr 2021 9:18

Hi, I have a master lock with an unknown 6 pin SFIC core. Anyone have a clue what brand it is?

Maybe a Best "L"? its hard to tell because they are all pretty close when you get to the keyways in that letter range.

I have an "M" and a "K" in stock and they look close as well. (I dont have the cylinders just the blanks im going from. I have a "K" cylinder on the way)

I was going to say BEST M because of the little bump at 3 o'clock..

Blanks are cheap enough to find out:

BEST L keyway blank

BEST M keyway blank

OP, it looks like you're standing at a gate with that padlock on it, what are you hoping to do? pick it? make a key?

The "L" and the "K" both have that bump at 3 but looking at it more I think you're right. My bet would be on "M".

Could it be the J keyway?

I'd say it is a J section.

6 pin J keyway blank for Master Lock

OP, is this *your* gate? we want to make sure we don't give you advice that gets you in trouble picking someone else's lock.

I found a lock very similar to yours. This one "protects" a shortcut between two public roads. So far so good - it's a reasonable security shrouded padlock with a heavy chain. This is also a "J" keyway. Their precious shortcut should be protected against casuals.

There could be implementation issues with the way this gate is locked though....

There used to be a vehicle trap at this location, which seemed to be a beemer magnet. I saw vehicles trapped there a couple of times, and I suspect their cars might need an alignment. I actually though it was better as a vehicle trap, since the fire department trucks could go through, and they might reasonably be in a hurry to get through there. Spot the problem with this setup... you can't make this up.

I realize now OP was asking what brand this is - it looks like a GMS core to me, but since it's not branded I'm not sure. These don't have as tight tolerances as BEST, but they work well.
