You can get some brake clean and spray it into the lock. That should remove the lubrication.

Lubing the lock I thought would be a win all around and, like you say, make it easier to pick. Turns out not the case on this lock, it is really weird. Thinking a some more on this I wonder if maybe, I didn't have to apply so much tension when it was in the original 2nd hand state but now I may have to apply much more. I'll give that a go actually.
Good tip on the brake cleaner. I have some Carb and Throttle Body cleaner handy in the garage which hope will achieve the same goal. I'll give this a go too and report back.
