Here is what the inside where all the electrical & mechanical parts are located. The main body holds most of the items but I'm showing the key pad side as this is where the lock is. I have removed the key pad so you can see the locking mechanism better:

These pictures above shows it in the locked position. The next picture is in the un-locked position. Once you've unlocked it you still need to use the "T" key to move the lugs.

When to 2 halves are mated the lugs interconnect here.

Ok, Now the coin box lock. The keyed part of the lock actuality is mounted inside the main part of the phone while the locking mechanism in on the inside cover.

Here is what it looks like in the locked and unlocked positions (note that when the lock is in-gauged it has 4 locking lugs).

As with the top half of the phone, when you've unlocked it with the key, you still need to use the "T" key to throw the bolts

And finely, here is the phone put all back together.

I hope you enjoyed this little look inside the inner workings of a pay phone. I tried to make it so everyone could at least get a basic idea of how the locking systems works. It took me a few hours to put together between taking the pictures, editing them, and than writing up a post, so let me know what you think. BTW, believe it or not the phone weighs over 43 lbs (19.5 kilos)!
