Hi, New here although not new to lock sport and hobby smith. I have made keys for hundreds of old padlocks.
I just picked up a older small American Padlock without a key. Probably from the mid 80's I got it because it has the John Deere logo and I needed to have it. It has the rekeyable cylinder type which I have never dealt with before. It has no face plate covering the cylinder like Americans usually have. It has just the exposed brass cylinder and round bible flush with the bottom and no cover plate.
So I picked it open, pulled the Phillips head screw out from under the shackle and was expecting the cylinder to fall out like usual. Not the case, it won't come out, I tried it in the open position, locked position, No go, I even tried putting a small punch down into the shackle hole and tapping it out, nothing. I just can't understand why it won't come apart.
Am I missing something here ? Usually I deal with older locks without re keyable cylinders and make keys without disassembly using a key bitting transcriber I built.
Thanks for any help !
