Installing new lock on safe in different configuration

Postby CynicalGabe » 10 Feb 2005 22:57

I have a Sisco Protector Model 1071 safe that someone gave me cause they forgot the combo. It has a key and combo lock. Since I'm still no good at manipulation, I picked the lock and "defeated" the combo (pulled dial and dropped the lock off - there was no relocker). I would like to know if there is a way to mount a new S&G or other lock on here, maybe in the hole which had the key lock, and plug the old hole. Thanks.

Does it have a class

Is there any info on class, if its just a fire box, you might have to bolt right through the door, making it appear as insecure as it is.

Here is a link with a photo. I'm nopt sure what class safe it is. The lock as pretty cheap, not sure if it was even a grade 2. In theory I could mount a grade 2 lock on the hole and weld the longer original bolt to the one for the new lock

Well I think you are trying to "make a silk purse out of a sow's ear' as we say back home (that is, trying to make treasure out of trash). However here are the specs for the standard S&G "magic module" size:

3.32 inches long, 1.624 inches wide, 1.206 inches deep

The bolt extends .461 inches from the case when locked, to 1.25 inches unlocked.

You can find out more at the S&G website (http://www.sglocks.com/).
