I'm also looking into picking up a ilco portable key machine "Ilco 008"
$299.00 is this a decent machine for a newbie?

Depends what you are looking to do...

If you are only doing it sparingly, hand file your blanks...



Anyway, check out Varjeal's "U-Key" package here on the forums under buy and sell.


I can't recommend it enough, it includes many different security pins, goes up to 6, is a nice high quality schlage and will help you in both re-keying and picking.

If you're looking for the odd rekey job, then yes, the Lab Semi-pro kit is a good choice. Just make sure that you're getting the .003 kit. The price is actually pretty good too...Only about $20 over wholesale.

The Mini Mite is a decent key machine for a start. It will dupe almost any standard key and the little suckers last forever. $300 is not a bad price either.

would this kit have the Pin's for the Kwickset & Schlage locks? I just looking for a decent kit to learn with +.
