Schlage Everest Cylinders

Postby jfice » 19 Apr 2005 5:18

Hello all.

I'm new to this board and new to lockpicking. I have yet to introduce myself on the "new to the board" section, but I will soon.

Anyways, I have a set of basic picks and one wrench from SouthOrd. I can pick Kwiksets usually on one try and within a minute or much less, depending on how lucky I get. I just starting picking today, so I'm no pro just yet =).

I do want to start practicing on harder locks, however. So I'm looking to purchase a Schlage Everest Cylinder with the standard C123 (I think?) keyway. I've already gone ahead and picked up a C123 blank or two so that I may modify it into an Everest torque wrench viz. Matt Blaze's example.

It is my understanding that once I have the check pin on the standard Everest, I'd attempt to pick it like normal, as there are no mushroom or fancy shaped pins to get in the way. One thing that I have noticed while tooling around with higher quality non-Everest Schlages are that you can barely feel the pins, if at all. They are so light, that it is next to impossible for me, with my current skill, to feel when I'm on and/or set a pin. I guess this will just come with practice.

So to get to the skinny of this long post (I'm sorry), I'd like to know where I might procure a standard C132 keyway Everest cylinder for dissassembly/practice purposes?

Thank to all in advance.

Sincerely,

John Foege

I dont think the schlage company makes the Everest cylinder anymore. Your best bet would bet to either keep an eye on ebay, or go to your local locksmith shop and ask if they have one. If they don't, see if he'll be willing to order one for you.

John, depends on where you are.

I'm working for an IR distributor in the Midwest at the moment - Everest is Schlage's default commercial keyway and it's available from any commercial Schlage dealer or locksmith in the country.

Emphasis on commercial

Your local locksmith may not be aware that they can order them, your local dealer may not interact with the general public. You can check http://www.schlage.com for distributor or product rep information and they should be able to help you find a dealer in your area.

Brand new cylinders list about $32 USD - just a general guideline, you won't want to pay more than that - especially for used or questionable product.

All the same, there's nothing wrong with getting them on eBay as long as the price is right.
