I just want to give a thanks to everyone who makes this forum possible, and those members who exchange information.

I just finished reading some more information here, didn't fully read the MIT guide, although i have browsed through it in the past.

Anyways, to make a long story short, i just tried a padlock i have here, an ABUS 65/40 , and before after many unsuccesful attempts in the past two days, i managed to pick it twice in about a minute each time!!

I don't know anything about these locks, and just fiddled again with it trying, for about 3 minutes, and couldn't make it happen a 3rd time.

, will keep trying. It is 5 pins? i would imagine as this is what it seems like so far, although again i am just a newb at this.

and thanks for the great info.

From some quick online research I believe that the Abus 65/xx is a 4 pin padlock. Congratulations on picking it! It doesn't seem to have mushroom pins like many of their other padlocks - this is their 'simple' line of padlocks. Keep it up!

Your right according to the specs it's a Abus 4 Pin tumbler mechanism.

You refer to it as a 'simple' lock? I'm in for a ride if this is considered a 'simple' lock, because at the moment i find it quite tough.

I was using a diamond pick, perhaps another type might suite my needs better, or give me a better feel. The tension wrench is a bit loose, maybe if there was less slack.

Maybe before i go any further i should manufacture / have proper picks.

I wouldn't call this a "simple" lock if it weren't for the quality of most of Abus' other products. Take for example, the Abus Discus - one of the most high security standard pin tumbler padlocks. Not only is the keyway restricted to the highest degree, but it is permanently stuck "upside down" to US standards. You can't flip it around to pick it, and on top of that, there are five mushroom top pins.

Other Abus locks like the 41 have four mushroom pins as well as a small keyway. The padlock you picked is simple when compared to locks like these. That being said, congratulations on what you've done, you only have one way to go from here... up! Keep trying, get yourself some decent picks, and keep active on the boards. Hope to hear from you soon!

Abus Padlocks

Postby BrownDwarf » 21 Apr 2005 23:52

I have two of them that I got [used] a few years back. A gentle raking works better for me on these than picking pin-by-pin with a hook. Could be the soft driver springs; could be that all the pins are set at more or less the same height.

Now try the Master #3 for an easy padlock with a completely different feel. Here hooks work far better for me than raking.
