Good deal on Medeco locks?

I have no experience with Medeco locks at all... From what I understand they're unpickable? Don't quite know what I intend to do with these yet. Mebby I can get one apart and check it out.

Nothing is unpickable.

It might take you a lot longer than you're willing to spend, (days weeks months) but it's NOT unpickable!



As to the Medecos, I strongly recommend you DO NOT attempt to take them apart. There's a bit more to them than meets the eye.

There are a lot of different picks on the market that supposedly will open a medeco but I haven't heard of anything that will reliably open a medeco. (except of course, the correct key!)

FWIW, you got them cheap and they're worth having if for no other reason than something to play with during moments of boundless optomism.

$21 for two complete locks??? That is crazy cheap...especially with keys...sheesh...If my scanner wasn't busted I could post some diagram pics on here for disassembly. I'm not sure how but you best find yourself some instructions before attempting to take these apart if you plan on being able to use 'em.

I take it then that these are indeed legit Medeco locks? I wondered at first if they may have been otherwise, as the seller wasn't familiar with the locks herself, and then again, when I won the auction for $21.50!

I would indeed like to take one apart though, just to get pictures, see how it works, etc. 'Twould be quite a learning experience methinks.

If Medeco keys work in the locks, chances are they're legitimate Medeco locks, unless someone spent a whole lot of time to rip 'em apart.

Here's some tips to help with disassembly.

1. Remove the pins by removing the screw covering the individual pin stacks ONE AT A TIME. Keep 'em organized and label their positions.

2. Fashion a plug follower from a piece of bar stock of some type.
Make sure to put a key into the plug while removing.

3. Push the plug out slooooowly, and watch for the sidebar to begin emerging as you push the plug out with your other hand. Hold the side bar in with your fingers as you remove, and keep the side bar in if this works like the Primus (I don't work with Medeco very much so be wary).

4. Once you have it all in your hand and preferrably holding over a tray of some type, you can then slooowly release pressure and carefully watch for where all the parts go.

This should help you disassemble the lock. Re assembly, of course, is the reverse. The main thing is to keep all the pin stacks together and in order, and to not damage the parts in connection with the sidebar and it's workings.

Well, I sent the payment for the locks on Monday, and should (Hopefully) be getting the locks shortly. If I'm so bold as to take one apart, I'll be sure to take pictuers.

No, haven't seen 'em yet, but hope that they come in soon. The slow shipping and all is understandable with the holidays and all that having just ended.
