Master Lock Safety Lockouts

Postby Chrispy » 6 Jun 2005 16:44

Has anyone picked one of these? Sorry for the crap pic, that's all I could find on the net (my digital camera is playing up). I couldn't believe how easy this was to pick. First try without even having to re-set the pins and it was open. Are these supposed to be high security? It says on the website:

"High security 6-pin cylinder exclusive to Safety Lockout "

Anyone else tried one?

P.S. I picked the red one...

Lockout locks don't need to be "high security."

If you are working on a piece of electrical equipment, the lockout device prevents someone from accidentally turning the power on. Electrocution is not a fun thing.

Also the lockout tag has space for six padlocks on it. This allows another worker to add his padlock to prevent you from energizing the circuit when you are done. The machine he is working on might be fed off the same circuit, or there is an interlock between them.

I see, thank you Buggs. But why do they boast the "High security 6-pin cylinder exclusive to Safety Lockout " when it's not that high security? Although I suppose a workman is not exactly going to pick a lockout lock, is he?

The "high security" aspect of that particular cylinder is in the fact that it is a restricted key system. In otherwords the only way to get keys is to actually order them. This makes it a factory controlled keyway. Seven pins, of course, adds to the pick resistance of the cylinder.

These can be ordered MK'ed. I have several that are, except I cannot make/order the MK as the system is restricted.
