Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

CES Euro Cylinder

Postby n2oah » 14 Jul 2005 13:36

So I wanted to dissect and pick my CES Euro cylinder, but I'm not sure how to. The cylinder has a black cover over what seems to be the springs, but I don't want to force it off if it isn't nessacary.
Here are some pictures of it: (sorry 56k users, photobuck didn't do the resizing!

Heh, that's the exact lock I have on my back door.

Same here. My family's house was built in the early 90's and this was a spare/replacement lock for the patio door.
Anybody have any clue how to get the spring cover off?

From the looks of it, if you take the spring cover off, it probably won't go back on. I would suggest pulling the plug retaining clip and just using the key, but I don't know how you would put it back together without the use of a plug follower. If you don't need the lock anymore you could snap it... Maybe I'm wrong and the cap is possible to put back on though. Perhaps a locky from the UK can be a little more helpful.

First of all, that is a nice lock. Secondly, and I'm sorry in advance but,

Thermite

Third, could you possibly shim it?

insert your key, remove the circlip, slide the cylinder out the front, and remember to catch all the driver pins and springs that'll follow. there's a good thread on the site somewhere about repinning these, and re-asembling them, you'll need to make a tool to hold the springs and drivers in place when putting it back together.

The CES plug clip is one use only. It will have to be destroyed to remove the plug and a new one fitted and clamped to rebuild.
If you need to rekey, or remove pins to assist picking, then taking the top off the chambers is a better way but if just to see how it works buy a rim or KiK cylinder instead.

I knew the clip holding the cylinder in wasn't a regular E-clip, because it didn't come off like an e-clip would... Now I have to make another new tool...
