Question regarding old fashioned/wardrobe locks

Postby JayHovah » 13 Sep 2005 11:23

Well I have looked over many lock diagrams and sites regarding lock picking, and I can't seem to find anything to help me. I feel this should be very simple, yet I'm having no luck. Basically, I'm trying to get into a cabinet/wardrobe that uses old fashioned keys (ex: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbvi ... n_Keys.jpg). Looking into the lock, all I can see is a small metal shaft that I have attempted to turn and mess with to no avail. I feel this should be simple yet I'm having trouble.. Any help or ideas?

Also, this looks somewhat similar to what I am dealing with, but only the key shape in the middle http://www.vintagehardware.com/locks-ca ... l-45-l.jpg

That's a warded lock, it's real easy. All you have to do is find out the shape of the wards an file out a key, or use an "L" shped piece of wire to hit the latch inside. Nothing special.

It took a bit of finding, but Capt.Dunc created a good thread on the subject of warded locks

Still no luck, thanks anyway fellas. Went to my local Locksmith store and picked up a universal skeleton key with a barrel head. It's not working, the barrel doesn't seem to be big enough to fit the shaft in the key hole. Any ideas?

I have the pleasure of doing about ten warded locks per week on peoples houses and everyone to date has had attleast two levers fitted. They are there obviously to prevent someone using a screwdriver to drag the bolt backwards and also to stop the bolt from locking if you slam the door shut.
