Da Vinci Code Key

I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, so I understand if no one replies. But is the gold, laser cut, triangle, 3D key/lock system described in the Da Vinci Code book for real? Or is it all made up?

I found all the security stuff in the book fascinating (the Louve (sp?), the Swiss Bank, etc)

That is an interesting question, and one that I've asked myself several times.

I don't think the key you see in the movie is modeled after any real system, but I don't think it would be impossible, either.

well the book and the movie actually have different endings(well slightly)...

and to the OP's question:
yes, a key system like that would be very easy to create, just very very expensive....

i mean we are talking a dopler laser system, and precise milling and a way of filtering out dust and grime....

very expensive equipment.

I was at the Louvre this summer. The window's interior locks were wafer locks. I guess the locks matter less when you have a high-tech alarm and security system. Still surprised me nevertheless.

I read the book and loved it!

Take the story for what it is - a detective story, and you will love it.

It might be true, but it's very well thought out.

I didn't think the film was too bad... The book better obviously. I think it's like The Lord of the Rings - the film wasn't as good as the book, but they made a bloody good effort!

i saw the movie, and thought it sucked, but then somebody said you should have read the book befor you see the movie.

And yeha i found that key really odd,but it looks cool.

Just to comment on the book question, I've read Demons and Angels which is supposed to be the better work and couldn't stand it. Da Vinci code would probably be a good read if you don't mind terrible writing, cardboard cut-out characters based on a flawed mystery full of incorrect and oftentimes ludicrous details, all built upon a true and fascinating theory stolen from an unrelated third source.

If you enjoy the theory behind DVC, read Holy Blood Holy Grail, which is a non-fiction historical book, and far more interesting.
