this thread is to show off your locks that Sam T. Claus left for you in the dead of night. I guess its also ok if you show locks that were gifted to you by, well, anyone. I think ive got locks inbound- maybe not though, if i do i will share and i hope others will as well!

six new (to me) locks. the bottom center one is interesting to me, under the pivot screw on the keyhole cover it says '402' horozontally then 'M.L.Co. phila' on line 1 (vertical). line 2 says 'AUTOMATIC' and line 3 has 'PAT 4.28.91'. last but not least it lets us know that its a four lever on the bottom in horozontal print. anyways, here they are and merry christmas/happy new year everybody!

Lockr, as a side note, if you don't already have some, get a packet of shims. These allow you to use any follower and avoid dropping of top pins.

The shims I like best come from inside the security tabs inside many products, from locks and tools to DVDs.

Ah, thanks for the tip! Using shims didn't even cross my mind. GWiens2001 wrote:The shims I like best come from inside the security tabs inside many products, from locks and tools to DVDs.
Oh, the irony! I thought I was the only person who did that; these have always been the source of the shims i've used over the years. I've actually just recently harvested several from the Christmas presents.... this is a convenient time of year to replentish supplies. I guess great minds think alike! =)

And here I though I was the only one scavenging these from Christmas presents... sort of a second present within a present. Gordon

This is a great idea. I was just looking at plug followers the other day. Thanks!

Definitely gotta take the award for 'The Worst Padlock Ever Seen'!! If it's any consolation .... my christmas presents included underwear that don't fit, and a broken grow-your-own bonsai tree! Which I have to admit are both nowhere near as much fun as that padlock! As you say, "What does this padlock tells us?" .... Well, possibly note that Danial will get the crappiset Christmas present next year In fact, this vid could have a forum thread all of it's own .... using your quote "What does this padlock tells us?" as a title!!! Thanks for the laugh dicey. I'll post my Christmas locks when I get them and a camera in the same room!

Just to help you along with some further information on this: your padlock was made by the D.K. Miller Lock Company of Philadelphia, PA. The original patent was #451,156 (there are some nice drawings there of the internal mechanism), and it was invented by Milton Jackson, who created a number of their lock designs from that era. Here's an advertisement for a slightly later version of that padlock, from Miller's 1905 product catalog:

This is by far the best "crappy lock" video I have ever seen.
