Having one key for everything you own represents its own security problems though.

yeah, if you lose it and somebody finds it you're in serious fudge - unless you get all those locks rekeyed then that person could do some serious trouble.

Realistically, if someone finds my house key or my car key right now, I'm in equally much of a crapstorm if they know where my house is. Odds are if I lose the key by accident they're not going to magically know where all the locks for it are.
Also, if I only have to keep track of one key, it should be much easier to keep it secured.
Edit: Ya know, I spent about 10 minutes reading my post trying to figure out what the heck I said that db edited out. Eventually I gave up and decided I'd just replace the censored logo with another word, but I had to spend another 5 minutes figuring out what I was trying to say in the first place, as it didn't make any sense to me. It eventually came to me. Sorry all.

you take your automotive key and the key that opens everything else.
rivet them together at the bow and now it is one key

I believe it was Medeco...and for the life of me can't recall the make or model, actually hade ignitions briefly for a very specific car.
That said, however, the practicality of having your car use the same key as your house is somewhat dangerous as most people don't keep their car(s) as long as their house.
Ignitions are only the first of the problems as a new set up for doors and trunk would have to be designed. Definitely not impossible with the right equipment, but worthwhile??? Not for me.
The dozens of different styles of ignitions and door locks would make mass mfg'ing a real headache, but as a special project for your favorite car would be mighty interesting. Let us know how it works out.

This thread reminds me that sometimes when I walk to class, I walk past a campus building that has a few banks in it, and thus has armored car deliveries all of the time. The armored trucks have interchangeable core locks on all of the doors. The cab has regular BEST locks, but the cargo area [where the $$$ are] have Medeo Keymark SFIC cores or KABA Peaks cores. Would be cool to have interchangeable core car locks  . ~Grit.

Thats actually what my plan was, I was just looking for ways to make a housing. I've just secured a dealer account with BiLock USA and their I/C system is fairly interesting, in that there is no discernable difference between normal BiLock products and I/C products when you look at them from the outside. If I were able to mill various housings for my vehicle that took these cores, it would make re-keying it a far simpler task when it came time to sell/scrap the vehicle.
