DOM dimple cam lock - breakdown images

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

got one of these in the post yesterday and dismantled today. :-)

Now i understand the lock a bit better i think it would be quite easy to make a bump key for this.

The passive pins will be bypassed by removing all material from the key in that row, so no matter where the pins they will always retract into the grove. I think this means sides of the key and the row next to the proper cuts.

Im going to have a play anway and see what i come up with. Theres too much snow to go out today

Oh forgot to add to that:

Have you ever seen those variable spool pins

same as a thin mushroom pin with a floating center piece! Awesome!

Hi Rick, I saw those pins in another tread, never had them in my hands. I think they'll act like standard spools, but this is a wild guess. Your key looks similar to mine (DOM IX HT) but the pins are different. Let us know how it ends... and good luck.

Cheers :)

I think the special pins are to make bumping less effective.

As for making the key iv had a go and failed;

As the control pins sit opposite the main pins, once youve removed all the material right to the end of the key, you lose the taper on the key end that lifts the pins and instead it just hits the side and stops... Not sure you will be able to make a bump key by hand its deffo a machine job with precise cuts for each control pin.

Was worth a try though, its the only way to learn :)

so.... who has managed to pick one of these...

very dificult to get your pick beneath the pins without slipping off. i can set a couple pins max, but otherwise this is out of my league. :(

I must get some of these to cutaway!

Could you let me know the width of the pins?

Cheers

Hi SnowyBoy,

I have a DOM IX HT, very similar to this except for the drivers. Which dimensions do you need? Just the pins diameter?
I'm not a "calliper expert" but I'll do my best.

Cheers :)

Hi Femurat, yeah just the fattest part of any of the pins. It's just to give me a head start with tooling sizes :)

Thanks :D

Hi SnowyBoy,

I did my homework yesterday evening :)

All the active pins, both drivers and key pins, spools, barrels mushrooms and regular ones are between 2.95 and 3 mm in their fattest point.
The passive pins are 2.15-2.20 mm on the key side and 1.90 mm on the cylinder side.

Let me know if you need other dimensions and good luck

Excellent! That's perfect :)

I use 3mm cutters more than any other size.... a lot of locks allow me to use a 3mm cutter between the two pin stacks where I cut which makes 1.5mm into each stack.

The problem with the DOM having two staggered stacks is that the 3mm channel between two stacks on one side will end up being dead centre to the pin in the opposite stack, allowing it to fall out :/

I can remedy that by simply changing my cut style and size, or make it only 180 degrees rotational instead of 360.... I won't actually know how I want to do it till I pick some up this week.... either way, it shold be an interesting lock. Has to be easier than the KABA20 I done a few months ago!
